The scope of practice of an Athletic Therapist begins with the education, training, and in-depth knowledge of the human musculoskeletal system, biomechanics, exercise physiology, and basic emergency care. Athletic Therapists use a wide variety of treatment techniques, some of which include:
  • Multidisciplinary clinics
  • Professional sports
  • Olympic games (and other similar events)
  • Sport and Exercise Performance and Optimization
  • Universities and Colleges (research and teaching)
  • High school, varsity, and amateur athletics
  • Industrial workplaces + more!
A first visit to our clinic generally requires a 45 or 60 minute appointment. Almost all appointments begin with a consultation where your therapist will review your health history and conduct any appropriate assessments and special tests. The remainder of time will be hands on followed by reassessment. If indicated, your therapist will recommend any appropriate homecare techniques which will help to support your personal healthcare goals.
For manual therapists to achieve the most effective results it is recommended that there is access to bare skin. Keep in mind that throughout the appointment your well-being is key and you are only ever encouraged to dress down to your comfort level. While you are on the table you will be draped under a sheet at all times and only the area being treated will be undraped. If you do choose to remain clothed for your treatment, athletic wear is the best choice (shorts, t-shirt, stretchy clothing).
This will be determined by both you and your therapist based on your individual healthcare needs. Should they be required, your therapist will discuss the frequency of upcoming treatments to find a schedule that best suits your wellness goals.
